The Unseen Power of Prayer at Rockford's Abortion Mill

Rockford May 16, 2010 - Many of you have recently read of the tragic story of the mother inside of Rockford's abortion mill who had her best friend and the father of her child desperately trying to get word to her that they loved her and would help her with her baby. You also read how effective the abortion mill was in keeping any knowledge of their presence from the young mother so she thought she was alone and friendless.
As followers of Jesus Christ we know God is in control but we realize we don't always see or understand what is happening in the world or in people’s hearts. The woman who was desperately trying to save the life of her friend’s child told pro-lifers a story of how the life of her own child was saved from abortion. We believe this child’s life was saved through the power of the prayers of people like you, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the openness to God and life of this woman’s heart.
On the sidewalk in front of Rockford's abortion mill this young mother explained to the sidewalk counselors how she was pregnant a few years before by her now ex-boyfriend. She was scared, confused, felt alone and was considering an abortion.
She had the phone number of the abortion mill in her hand and was ready to call.
But she couldn't do it, something prevented her from calling. Something inside of her, an unseen grace, moved her heart to life and love.
Was this one of the saves we never hear about? The prayers of the people of God are working! How many other girls have had the mill phone number in hand and couldn’t bring themselves to call, couldn’t bring themselves to show up to their appointment, because God’s people were praying and interceding on their behalf and the behalf of their unborn child?!
This was a terrible day for the unborn at Rockford's abortion mill with 16 lives lost. Although this young woman and her brother weren’t able to help his child, 2 years ago God was able to use our prayers to save her baby, a beautiful little boy.
She also seemed to have some sort of God-given epiphany right on the sidewalk about abortion in general. As she was talking with us she said, “You know, my mom and I used to say that it was none of our business what another woman wants to do with her body, that’s her decision and all that, but I’m not so sure anymore.” This young woman saw how her brother was powerless to help his ex-girlfriend regarding his unborn child, and that struck a chord with her. God opened some blind eyes today at the Northern Illinois Women’s Center. All glory and honor to the Great I AM!!!!

By definition a moral miracle is a visible effect produced by God which exceeds the native powers of the human will. Prayer is our only hope to do this. A small group of us have been able to do this for over 10 years at two abortion mills and the local hospital that performs abortions also. We have been blessed to see the fruits of prayer, as to see hearts changed ; and women come back to thank us for being there, having changed there hearts . They are a wonderful, faithful, pro-life School and Orphanage in India. The children of St. Mary’s come from the streets. Some were rejected by parents and abandoned because they are handicapped. Others came from homes with no father or mother or parents who simply could not provide for them. Many of the children at St. Mary’s have little or no use of their limbs. The deaf have never been taught to communicate. The handicapped and poor children of the low caste system in southern India grow up scorned, despised and uneducated, with no chance for a decent life. Often, they are exploited as street beggars for others to obtain food and money. These are the children St. Mary’s takes in. Any Masses offered for life at St. Marys will have great spiritual power in ending abortion and will help these children in need.

James 5:16-18 declares, "…The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops."
God most definitely listens to prayers, answers prayers, and moves in response to prayers. Jesus taught, "…I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20).
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 tells us, "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." The Bible urges us, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18).
